This letter to members of the U.S. Senate urges them to co-sponsor the National Aquatic Invasive Species Act (NAISA - S. 770). NAISA will amend and improve the Nonindigenous Aquatic Nuisance Prevention and Control Act of 1990 in an effort to reduce the introduction and spread of aquatic invasive species that threaten the diversity of native wildlife, the ecological stability of estuarine or wetland habitats, and the commercial and recreational activities that depend upon them. - Established in 2003, the National Environmental Coalition on Invasive Species (NECIS) is a national partnership of 15 major environmental organizations that provides a united expert and scientific voice on invasive species policy. Its leaders include scientists, lawyers, activists, and advocates with many years of experience on invasives policy. NECIS members meet monthly, collaborate on a variety of campaigns, host an annual education day in Washington, DC, and share ideas through a dedicated listserv.
